Every litter at Coldwater is the result of hours and hours of intense, in depth research and preparation long before the puppies are born. This includes pedigree, structure, temperament, and health. As well as medical and comfort care for both mothers and puppies. We pride ourselves on the prenatal care that our mama dogs receive. One thing we believe give Coldwater Beagles an edge is that our puppies are raised in our homes.
Our goal is to give our puppies the best start in life possible. This starts from giving mothers and neonates a safe, clean environment to thrive and clean, healthy nutrition.
The Nursery
From day 1 of their cycle, the moms move into the "nursery." Our nursery is in our bedroom. We find our mama dogs are happiest being with their people. And we are most comfortable in a bed. So for the first 3 to 4 weeks of life, the puppies are raised in our bedroom.
The Puppy Suite
When the mom and puppies are require more space and are ready for socialization, they move to the Puppy Suite. This is in our second living room. We are so blessed to have been able to convert our garage to extra living space and primarily kennel space. We have a living room that doubles as a step up room for the puppies. Where they start their socialization. Here they get introduced to all the general sites, smells and sounds of daily household life.
Outside Time
We feel it is really necessary to introduce our puppies to the outside. While we don't focus on potty training, it's a secondary benefit to outside socialization. Puppies are dogs and need to be outside and for a well rounded socialization interaction they need the texture, sights, smells and sounds also.

Puppy Rearing Methods
In December 2026 we celebrate 27 years of breeding- our first litter being born Dec 30, 1999. In that time, we've done so much research on the best way to raise our puppies to give them the building blocks to have the best life. Popular training and puppy rearing fads have come and gone over the years. But we have taken high points from many methods and made them our own.
Currently we use a lot of the "Puppy Culture" techniques and highly recommend their resources for our owners.
