In 2025 my friend Megan came to visit me in Amana, Iowa at the Beagle National, as she doesn't live to far from there. We had a lovely evening eating and gabbing enjoying the Beagles. Megan showed a Beagle for me that was owned by a friend of hers in 2019/2020, before the pandemic. And I first met Megan in 2017 when she bought her first show dog, a Treeing Walker Coonhound from a breeder here in Michigan. Through that connection I was able to teach and mentor Megan on the ways of AKC dog shows. While we were gabbing, Megan told me she'd like a Beagle to show, and when I got a good one, she wanted it. 

Phelps was pick of the litter from our Fall 2025 Swim Team litter. I was prepared to keep 3 puppies from this litter (shhhh don't tell Tim that!) because I was so impressed with them. But then I remembered Megan wanted a Beagle, and I already was full with boys in the kennel. So with that, Phelps has become an honorary Coonhound (lol).

Phelps has proven to be similar to his namesake Michael Phelps so far in his show career, and we expect great things to continue for him as he grows and matures. He was a multiple UKC Group and Reserve/Best Puppy in Show Winner and was a multi AKC Beginner Puppy Hound Group winner. His first "real" show at 6 months 1 day old saw reserve winners dog to a major. He then said...enough of this and the next day at the ripe old age of 6 months 2 days old went winners dog for a 3 point major and then beat 2 champions for Best of Variety for a 5 point major. For the rest of 2026 Phelps will be taking time off to enjoy just being a puppy.
